Khaleda Zia's appeal to 4-1 votes

Election Commission has rejected the appeals of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. As a result, he is no longer part of the eleven parliamentary elections.

After the hearing on Khaleda's petition on Saturday evening, the Election Commission informed the decision. Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar voted in favor of returning Khaleda's candidature. On the other hand, the chief election commissioner (CEC) and four other commissioners gave a verdict for canceling the candidacy.

Later, Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmad said that the appeals filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia were rejected by 4-1 votes.

Earlier, the hearing of appeals against Khaleda Zia's cancellation was held on noon. The lawyers, AJ Mohammad Ali, Zainul Abedin and Mahbub Uddin Khokan, along with a few other lawyers, appeared for Khaleda Zia.

Khaleda Zia submitted nomination papers for the elections in Feni-1, Bogra-6 and Bogra-7 constituencies. But the Returning Officer of three seats canceled Khaleda Zia's nomination papers. An appeal was made against him against the Election Commission.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's lawyers claim that the Returning Officers canceled their leader's nomination on charges of election crimes. However, the BNP chairperson has been sentenced to the corruption case, not in the election offense.

Many of Khaleda Zia's lawyers are central leaders of BNP.

During the appeal hearing on the validity of the candidature of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Election Commission, the lawyers want to ask the Chief Election Commissioner and other commissioners, Khaleda Zia in jail, how did she violate the code of conduct or make an election offense? How can the candidature of Khaleda Zia be canceled?

Khaleda Zia's lawyers said, "Our legal grounds is that the Returning Officer has said in the order to cancel his nomination papers, if any person commits an offense in relation to election, such as after submitting nomination papers, they started campaigning or beat someone or obstructed the polling station. The lawyers said that they brought the matter to the commission. Lawyers said that Khaleda Zia has submitted nomination papers from three seats in the next eleventh parliamentary election. Khaleda Zia's lawyers told the hearing that the cancellation of nomination papers of Khaleda Zia was not correct according to what the Returning Officer showed as the reason for the cancellation of the nomination papers. That is why the appeal has been made to the Commission. They said, "Every citizen has the right to participate in the elections. In that case there is no reason to keep Khaleda Zia away from elections politically politically. Even then, Khaleda Zia has the legal right to participate in the elections. The order that the Returning Officers gave, is not legal in terms of law. We believe that the Election Commission will give fair and fair judgments by judicial review. And the order given by returning officers, the commission will cancel it. We hope Khaleda Zia will participate in the next election. "
